2 Timothy 1:7
My friends, I want us to look at the final piece of the verse we’ve been expounding on in the last few blogs. The touching letter was written by Paul to his “dearly beloved son” shortly before his martyrdom
(2 Timothy 4: 6-8), and contains the last words of the great apostle which inspiration has preserved.
Second Timothy has to do with the personal walk and testimony of a true servant of Christ in a day of apostasy and declension. Paul wrote this letter to his son at a time when the Asian churches had turned away from the doctrines of grace distinctively revealed through the Apostle Paul. This was an indication that legalism has set into the church.
This letter is so relevant to us today because in such perilous times, it’s imperative that we have a sound mind. Sometimes the most dangerous place one can be is in the hands of religious men. Men have the tendency to twist the word of God to satisfy and propagate their own agenda. We are citizens of heaven and aliens to earth which means we have to think and act differently.
Paul says we must have a good judgment of things, have self control and self discipline. In other words, be sensible. Let the truth of God’s word guide your judgment in all things – meaning let it structure your thinking. That is crucial; because if you’re not thinking correctly, you are not living correctly. What you believe will determine how you behave. Have a sound mind and be balanced in your thinking.
Fear not; you have power, you have love and you have a sound mind. Take the world on and make a difference.
