“Of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…” (1 Chronicles 12:32)
When we look through the corridors of history we realize everything is changing. In my estimation, the only thing that is constant is God and change itself. Everything changes! Nothing is as permanent as change. Everything is in a state of change.
If we accept the inevitable truth that everything is changing and that nothing remains the same, it should minimize our disappointments. Because then, we will know that whatever negative experience we are going through, is only for a season. The good thing about seasons is that they don’t last forever.
As it has been said, a turn in the road is not the end of the road, unless you refuse to negotiate the turn. God will always change you to greater not average. God does not change us to make us miserable, but to make us better.
God realizes that we will never succeed in our future, how we are in our present; so He makes changes along the way. The sad reality about humanity is that we hate change and we resist change. Everybody hates change except a wet baby.
The key to survival is the description of the sons of Issachar in our text (1 Chronicles 12:32). They had understanding of the times. They were not ignorant of the times and the seasons. My question is, do you know the times we are in? For example, do you understand that you cannot spend money like you used to do 10 years ago? Did I hear you say “Why?” The answer is simple, the times have changed.
Understanding the times is not good enough. You have to also know what to do in every season of your life. For example you cannot live your married life like you did when you were single. Your ability to successfully navigate the different seasons in your life will be determined by your understanding of the seasons you are in, and knowing what to do in each season of your life.
I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I’ll see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.
